She walked to the mailbox Ela foi até a caixa postal
On that bright summer's day Num dia daquele verão luminoso
Found a letter from her son Achou uma carta de seu filho
In a war, far away Numa guerra, muito longe.
He spoke of the weather Ele falou sobre o clima
And friends that he'd made E dos amigos que fez
Said, "I'd been thinking 'bout Dad Ele disse: " Eu estava pensando no papai
And the life that he had E na vida que ele teve,
That's why I'm here today" Isto é porque eu estou aqui."
Then at the end he said Então no fim ele disse
"You are what I'm fighting for" "Você é por quem eu estou lutando"
It was the first of his letters from war Esta foi a primeira das suas cartas da guerra.
She started writing Ela começou a escrever

She wrote every night as she prayed Ela escreveu e rezou todas as noites.

And out stepped a captain Então parou um Capitão

He said, "Mom, I'm following orders Ele disse: "mamãe, eu estou seguindo as ordens

And I've come home again" E eu voltei para casa de novo."
He ran in to hold her Ele correu para abraça-la
And dropped all his bags on the floor Deixou todas suas malas no chão
Holding all of her letters from war Segurando todas as cartas da guerra dela.
